The Memorial football team opened the season with a big victory Friday night as it took down Celina 16-14.

Celina, an eight-time state champion, was playing its first game in its new stadium. But Memorial, which last year lost 54-0 to Celina in its first game ever, showed that the Warriors are a very different team in their second season -- and first with a senior class.

Garren Huey led the Memorial offense with more than 100 yards rushing, and the Warriors' defense shut out Celina in the second half.

Ronald De Madet kicked the game-winning 20-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.
