The Memorial football team rallied in the fourth quarter on Saturday to come from behind and beat Hallsville 34-24 at FISD Memorial Stadium.
Memorial, which improved to 1-1 with the victory, trailed 24-17 entering the fourth quarter. After a field goal cut the lead to 24-20, Memorial's Jake Herzog intercepted a Hallsville pass to get Memorial the ball back. The Warriors took advantage of the short field, driving for a touchdown capped by a 1-yard run by Jackson Schoolcraft that gave Memorial a 27-24 lead.
Herzog then made the game-clinching interception and returned it 33 yards for a touchdown with less than a minute to play.
Ethan Lollar threw for 194 yards for Memorial, while Garren Huey rushed 16 times for 83 yards and a touchdown. Zion Steptoe caught 4 passes for 80 yards.
Memorial plays Lebanon Trail (2-0) this week as FISD's two newest high schools open District 7-5A Division II play. The game is Friday at 7 p.m. at the Ford Center.
